BURGLARY IN RAIPUR, TWO NABBED
Dehradun: The senior police officers claimed to have taken several measures to check theft and other crimes in the State capital. However, there seems to be no letup in crimes notwithstanding the police brags. As things unfolded, with the vigilance of the households and the locals’ active response on calls, two thieves who had barged into a locked house located in the Raipur area at 3 pm on Friday were apprehended and handed over to the district police on Friday.
The incident has exposed chinks in the police claim that intensified police patrolling in the areas is proving deterrent for the criminals to prowl about in the State capital.
Dehradun police arrested two thieves on Friday and said they were members of an inter-State gang that was involved in several crimes committed in the State Capital and some districts of Uttar Pradesh in the past. The accused have been identified as Danish and Ishrat Ali, natives of Bijnore (Uttar Pradesh).
During interrogation, the accused admitted their offences and disclosed that they were involved in two theft cases reported in the State capital recently. The accused were sent to jail after being presented in the court. Police will seek police remand of the accused in the court to recover stolen items from their possession.
Based on the information provided by the accused, police began conducting raids at various places in Dehradun and adjoining districts of the Uttar Pradesh to nab the two absconding criminals, said Raipur Police Station in-charge sub-inspector Abul Kalam.
Kalam said that in the broad daylight on Friday two thieves had broken open the locked house of Motilal Pal, located at Nathuwawala area, Raipur. Motilal who had gone to a hospital for medical check- up reached his house and found it had been broken open. Before entering the house, he began shouting for help. The alarmed neighbours assembled. The miscreants were caught consequently. Meanwhile, the locals called up police and police teams rushed to the site and took the custody of the accused. Police frisked the accused and recovered ornaments from their possession. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that both had committed theft in Mumbai and Hyderabad in the past. According to the accused, the duo had committed theft in Kandoli and Sumanpur, Raipur recently.
