Ex-Servicemen threaten to go on hunger strike over indecision on One Rank One Pension

Members of ex-servicemen association today threatened to go on protest and relay strike from June 14 if their demand of One Rank One Pension (OROP) is not met by then.
A group of Defence ex-servicemen on Saturday met Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to discuss the One Rank One Pension issue. Major General (Retired) Satbir Singh said that Parrikar promised to implement OROP but gave no fixed date for it.
“We want a date as to when this (OROP) will be implemented. If we won’t get specific date then we’ll start agitation frm 14 June, from 15 June we’ll go on hunger strike,” said Singh after the meeting.

He added that the meeting was inconclusive and will meet the defence minister again.
One rank, one pension scheme has been a long-standing demand of nearly three million ex-servicemen in the country. It seeks to ensure that a uniform pension is paid to defence personnel who retire at the same rank with the same length of service, irrespective of their date of retirement.
