Haridwar-Rishikesh passenger train’s engine catches fire, alert driver avoids mishap

The engine of Haridwar-Rishikesh passenger train caught fire on Monday morning. According to reports the driver of the train noticed a spark in the engine at around 11 am when the train was near Motichur. The spark turned in to a fire and the alert driver immediately applied emergency breaks to stop the train. On further inspection it was found that one of the fuel tanks had ruptured and fuel was leaking on the tracks. The driver alongwith the helper were able to control the fire with fire extinguishing equipment on board.

Domino effect on other trains

The Haridwar-Riskhikesh passenger train stalled on the track, had an effect on all the traffic on Dehradun-Haridwar rail route. Most of the trains were running late by around 2-3 hours. After being stuck on the tracks for about 3 hours, another engine was called to take the train to Raiwala station. A short circuit has been determined to be the cause of the accident.
