Lockdown: Market in Khatima remains closed as mark of protest

Khatima/Udham Singh Nagar: As a sign of protest against the mapping of the market area by the officials, the traders closed down the market in Khatima on Sunday. The government officials had started a measurement drive acting on orders of the High Court. The traders and shop owners say that the marking guidelines that are being followed to check the encroachment are of the 1959-60 time period.

The market in Khatima wore a deserted look after traders lockdown their shops as a mark of protest. Chemists and Confectionery shops were kept out of the protest and remained open. The traders have written to the Chief Minister through SDM Richa Singh to take action against the verification by the local authorities. The traders have asked the CM that drains on both sides of the roads should be considered a marking guideline to check for encroachment activities.

SDM Singh showed the traders the map belonging to the department which was of the 1959-60 time period and said that the officials were merely following the court orders and if the traders had any problem with it they should submit a plea with the court. The SDM also assured the traders of full transparency in the marking process.
