2 CPU members arrested for robbing Bareilly based trader in Haldwani
Haldwani/Nainital: A Bareilly resident, Anup Agarwal, was heading to Haldwani from Almora in his car when four men posing as special operations group (SOG) stopped his car. They forced Agarwal to drive to Haida Khan Road from Haldwani-Kathgodam road and robbed him of his money.
Of the four miscreants, two of them — sub-inspector Lalit Deori and a constable Ganesh Satyal — belonged to the City Petrol Unit (CPU). The two members of the CPU unit in Haldwani were accused of robbing the Bareilly-based bullion trader of Rs 7.94 lakh. The stolen money was recovered by police on Saturday. Of the four miscreants, two of them — sub-inspector Lalit Deori and a constable Ganesh Satyal — belonged to the CPU.
The accussed confessed to committing the crime after being nabbed and they also identified the spot where the money was hidden, police claimed.
In his complant, Agarwal said, “The four men signalled me to stop my car near Kathgodam police post and forced me to drive down to Haida Khan road and snatched the money. They said they are from SOG and warned me not to mention the incident to anyone.”
Pushkar Singh Sailal, deputy inspector general of police, Kumaon division, said, “The accused policemen had been nabbed with the money. The two from the CPU and one is from police and has been suspended. The law will take its own course.”
