Portals of Hemkunt Sahib to be closed for the winters on 10th Oct

The portals of the Hemkunt Sahib shrine, one of the most revered shrines ofthe Sikh community, will close on October 10 for the winter season. The decision was taken by the seven-member Hemkunt Sahib Management Trust headed by Madan Singh, the seniormost member in the organization.

Following routine prayers, the portals of the Hemkunt Sahib shrine will close on October 10 for the next six months, said NS Bindra, Vice-Chairman of the Hemkunt Sahib Management Trust.

“The number of devotees visiting the shrine this time was much less than our expectation and it was all due to rumours on the social media of a small bridge near Bhyundar on the trek route to the shrine getting damaged,” said Bindra. It was a minor fault and the bridge was repaired in two days and the free flow of devotees to the shrine was ensured, he added.

“The state governmentis also planning to construct a helipad a half kilometre below the Hemkunt Sahib shrine for evacuating pilgrims in case ofany emergency. The trust is also exploring ways to introduce a mobile application service for devotees that will contain all information, including a road map to the Hemkunt Sahib shrine,” said NS Bindra.
