Underground garbage disposal units to be installed in Doon

  • As many as 100 underground dustbins to be placed in main areas of Dehradun city
  • Project already being run successfully in Haldwani
  • In the early stage, dustbins to be placed on Rajpur Road, Chakrata Road, Dharampur and Canal Road areas.

Dehradun: The Dehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC) is set to place underground dustbins with an aim to cover open garbage, which has become an eyesore for the people. It was also one of the primary reasons why Doon was dumped in the bottom of the list of most clean capitals.

According to officials concerned, during the first phase of the project, the DMC will install 100 underground dustbins in the main areas of the city. This will prevent stray animals from gathering around the dustbins and creating trouble to the passers-by.

Dr RK Singh, a senior health officer of the DMC, said the idea was adopted from Haldwani city where the project was running successfully. In the initial stage, we would install 100 dustbins in the main areas of the city. The project would cost around Rs 3 crore and tenders for it had been issued. The work would begin soon.
