2 MBBS students reported to be drowned near Srinagar

Srinagar/Pauri: A casual outing trip for a group of final year MBBS students turned into a nightmare when two of them lost their lives by drowning in the Alaknanda river. Despite frantic search and rescue operations that lasted over eight hours, rescuers could not find the bodies of the two in the gushing waters of the river.

According to police officials, A group of 10 medical students went to an area about 5-km ahead of Srinagar to play ‘kabaddi’. After playing ‘kabaddi’, some of them entered the river to bathe and clean off the mud on their bodies. Suddenly, the student heard cry for help from Ankit Kumar Panwar, who hails from Udham Singh Nagar district. Seeing his friend being carried away in the strong currents, his friend Manpreet Singh, jumped into the river to save him, and was swept away as well. Singh was also from Udham Singh Nagar district.
