As part of the UN70 celebrations in New York City, the Department of Public Information has mobilized the participation of over 220 staff and diplomats in the annual Dash to the Finish Line race, organized by the New York Road Runners every year on the day before the New York City Marathon.

The annual 5K (3.1 miles) “Dash to the Finish Line” race starts at 8:30 a.m. on First Avenue outside the United Nations Headquarters in New York and ends in Central Park at the Marathon finish line where some 45,000 people end their 26.2 mile run across New York’s five boroughs.  Runners mobilized by the Department of Public Information will wear blue t-shirts with the United Nations emblem on the front and the UN70 logo and “Team UN” on the back.

The 220 strong Team UN includes three Permanent Representatives, six Deputy Permanent Representatives, a City of New York Commissioner, diplomats, staff, interns and family members.

Maher Nasser, Director of the Outreach Division, Department of Public Information will deliver brief remarks on behalf of United Nations Secretary‑General Ban Ki‑moon, as will the Permanent Representative of the United States, Ambassador Samantha Power, who will speak on behalf of the Host Country.

Team UN will gather at 7:45 a.m. in front of the Visitor’s Entrance at the 46th Street Gate for a group photo.  Flags will be raised on Saturday morning, 31 October 2015, in celebration of the race and UN70.
