Bus accident near Gumkhal claims 7 lives, many others injured

Pauri: Seven people died and 22 were injured when a bus they were travelling in fell into a 250-metre deep gorge near Gumkhal area in Pauri district on Monday afternoon. The injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital, where the condition of two is said to be critical. The bus was on its way o Chaubatakhal from Kotdwar when the accident took place.
The identities of the deceased and the injured are yet to be identified. Meanwhile, the bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination. The police and district teams rushed to the spot. Rescue operations were started with the help of locals. While five of the passengers died on the spot, two were said to have succumbed to injuries during treatment. The passengers in the bus were mostly locals, police said. With Diwali two days away, most of them are believed to have been on way to their respective residences to celebrate the festival.
