Announcer goof up in declaring Miss Universe 2015 winner
Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach wins Miss Universe 2015, but Miss Colombia crowned the winner
The Miss Universe 2015 pageant ended with a shocking twist Sunday night as host Steve Harvey mistakenly named the wrong contestant the winner and then, had to strip her of her crown.
Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez was declared the new Miss Universe, but her reign lasted only a few minutes as Harvey soon realized he misread his cue cards.
Harvey says it was his mistake and that he would take responsibility for not reading the card correctly that named contestant Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach this year’s winner and Colombia the first runner-up.
A mystified Wurtzbach appeared stunned as she walked to the front of the stage alongside the crown-wearing Arevalo before last year’s Miss Universe from Colombia removed the crown and placed it on Wurtzbach’s head instead.
The field of gorgeous women was narrowed down from 80 to just 15 after the costume competition, and those remaining then walked the stage in their sizzling swimsuits. But only 10 could move on, and the Top 10 followed up by totally killing it in their breathtaking evening gowns. That group was then narrowed down to five, with contestants from France, the USA, Philippines, Australia and Colombia answered tough, on-the-spot questions, and Miss USA, Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines made it to the Final 3.
