Ex-railway employee alleges molestation charges against Doon DGP BS Sidhu
A former Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, addressing a crowded press conference in the city on Wednesday, renewed her 12-year-old allegation of sexual abuse against BS Sidhu, the Uttarakhand director general of police (DGP) who is due to retire on April 30.
Speaking to the media in Dehradun, the former head clerk in the office of the RPF chief security commissioner (Mumbai) said Sidhu tried to molest her inside his office in August 2004.
“One day I was called by him to the office with another officer when Sidhu was the RPF Mumbai chief security commissioner. However, the other officer asked me go in alone as per Sidhu’s wishes. Inside the office, Sidhu first tried to show porn videos and then told me to do as he said. He then pulled me towards him. I objected to it, pushed him back and ran out of the room,” she said, adding that her complaint was not registered at the Shahnagar police station in Matunga when she went to lodge an FIR against Sidhu.
“Sidhu then issued memorandums against me for coming late to office and later transferred me to Pune, despite my producing medical certificates which proved my inability to be transferred owing to an illness. However, I was not heard and a departmental inquiry committee gave a report against me under pressure from Sidhu. I was then terminated from the service,” she said.
She further said that she had lodged a complaint with the Uttarakhand government in 2012, when Sidhu was made DGP. “I was called by a state government official and told that my air tickets were booked to come to Dehradun to present my case but the tickets were cancelled the very next day,” she said. She said she later went to Dalanwala to lodge an FIR but had to return empty handed.
Sidhu, however rejected the charges and said the woman was making “frivolous charges” against him. Sharing the standing committee report on sexual harassment, Sidhu said the committee recommended “suitable action against her for a blatant misuse of the sexual harassment at workplace act.
