Man held for smuggling gold worth Rs 1 cr at IGI airport

A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold valued at about Rs 1 crore at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.

Acting on inputs received from Delhi Police, customs officials intercepted the accused on his arrival from Dubai.

On detailed examination, he was allegedly found carrying 500 gold coins weighing 3.9 kg, a senior customs official said.

The value of the seized gold is assessed at Rs 99.17 lakh, he said.

The accused, an engineer, has been arrested and further investigation is on, the official said.
