Doon hospital’s fate to be decided by June 15
The Medical Council of India (MCI) may announce its decision about Doon medical college latest by June 15. The fate of the Doon hospital which turned into a medical college has been hanging in balance due to a pending inspection by the MCI team.
Sources said that the MCI team which was expected to visit Dehradun by April 30 may now not even visit the site and give approval to the college by simply checking the evidences of compliance sent by the college administration in audio and video form.
“On May 10, experts from central government will conduct a meeting in Delhi following which the report of MCI will be sent to health ministry on May 15 for final go-ahead. Final picture will emerge by mid-June.” disclosed a senior official of the medical education department.
The medical college will start its first session this year with 150 seats if it gets approval in June.
If it gets approval then Doon medical college will be the first medical college of Uttarakahnd to give admission to 150 medical students under National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) as per which 85% (127 seats) quota will be given to students from Uttarakhand and remaining for outsiders.
