3 day heavy rain alert in Uttarakhand

Heavy rains have been predicted for Friday and the situation is likely to get worse in the next two days as weathermen forecast very heavy downpour on July 2 and 3. According to weather experts, people across Uttarakhand, especially in the low-lying areas, need to take special care as highest level warning has been issued by the MeT department.

The prediction said that heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at a few places in Nainital, Udhan Singh Nagar, Champawat, Almora, Pauri, Haridwar, Dehradun and Tehri districts and heavy rain is expected at isolated places in rest of the districts of Uttarakhand during next 72 hours starting from July 1.

“We will advise people to make plans accordingly. We have issued the highest warning level for the next three days and people living in low-lying areas need to take extra precaution,” Bikram Singh, Director, Meteorological Centre said.

He pointed that as per the set parameters showers ranging from 64.5mm to 115.5mm are included under the heavy rain category. Whereas, rainfall from 115.6mm to 204.4mm is termed as heavy rainfall.
