Bus falls into ditch near Devprayag, one woman pilgrim dead

A 50-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh died and 11 others were injured after a bus carrying char dham pilgrims fell into a 20 metre deep ditch near Mulyagaon in Devprayag area of Tehri district on Sunday.

The condition of the injured pilgrims, who were rushed to nearby hospital, is said to be stable.

After completing the char dham yatra, residents from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka were on their way back in three buses. Near Mulyagaon, the driver of one of the buses lost control of the vehicle. The bus carrying 27 people fell into the pit.

A rescue operation was launched by the locals and police. While other passengers were rescued, Alagdada Sudharani was trapped inside the vehicle for a long time.

“The injured were rushed to a hospital, where despite the best efforts the woman could not be saved. The condition of other injured people is stable and out of danger.” said Station officer Devprayag Hemant Khanduri
