Pithoragarh Panthers continue their dominant run in the tournament

Haldwani/Kotdwar: Pithoragarh Panthers who are one of the tournament favorites have not disappointed their fans in the inaugural edition of the Uttarakhand Super League. The defeat in their opening match against Bageshwar FC Kafals seems to have ignited a spark in the Panthers’ squad who have been in a rampaging form since then. The franchise representing the hill district of Pithoragarh has not only won their next 3 matches, they have done so without conceding a goal! A 6-0 rout of Udham Singh Nagar Warriors, 3-0 win over Almora Burans and another 3-0 victory over Nainital FC Lakes has seen the panthers surge to the top spot in Group B of USL 2016.

A good crowd had build up despite it being a working day to witness the marquee match between Pithoragarh Panthers and Nainital FC Lakes at the Forest Training Institute’s Football Ground. The match was also watched by USL chairman Virender Rawat and Nainital DM Deepak Rawat who urged the players to strive hard and make the nation proud in the field of Football. Also present on the occasion were USL CEO Narender Karki, USL secretary Shankar Sagar and USL Marketing VP Rishabh Garg.

Bhupender and Chapko were the goal scorers for the panthers. Chapko was adjudged the man of the match for his 2 goals.

Dehradun Capital Rangers score a come from behind win over Pauri Platoons

Dehradun Capital Rangers who had to face the wrath of the rain gods when their matches were held in Dehradun finally got some dry weather conditions to play. Coming from a win in their previous game Pauri Platoons looked to continue the momentum by striking the first goal, but the DCR players had other plans. Scoring an equalizer in the second half, the strikers scored a decisive goal in the closing moments of the match to give Dehradun Capital Rangers a 2-1 win over Pauri Platoons. With the win, Dehradun Capital Rangers have 8 points and are at the top of the list in Group A.

Kotdwar SDM G. R. Binwal, USL MD Sachin Upadhyaya, Technical Director V. S. Rawat, Observer Dilbar Singh Bist, Kotdwar Secretary Sunil Rawa were also present on the occasion.
