Kedarnath and Badrinath closing dates for winters announced

The dates for closure of Char Dhams were announced here yesterday. The portals of Badrinath shrine will close on November 16 at 3.45 pm. Similarly, portals of revered Kedarnath shrine will close for winters on November 1. The portals of Gangotri shrine will close on October 31 while the Yamunotri shrine will be closed for winters on November 1.

The closing dates for Hemkund Sahib, Madhmaheshwar temple and the Tungnath shrine were also declared on Wednesday. According to the announcement, the portals of Hemkund Sahib will be closed on October 15, the Madhmaheshwar temple doors will be shut on November 23 while the Tungnath shrine will close on November 7.

Hemkund Sahib is the holy place dedicated to the 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh in Chamoli district. Manghesh Ghildiyal, chief development official of Chamoli said, “The doors of the Hemkund Sahib shrine are generally closed much before other temples and shrines in the state. As the shrine is situated at height of 4,600 meters from the sea level snowfall begins quite early here. Devotees have to trek for 16 km to reach the shrine which is not advisable in such inclement weather.”

The Madhmaheshwar temple is situated inside the Kedarnath Wildlife sanctuary and is the fourth of Panch Kedar temples while the Tungnath temple situated at 3680 meters above sea level.
