Munsiyari mountain biking event on November 24

The Uttarakhand Forest Development Corporation in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India will be organising the first national mountain biking trail at Munsiyari slopes on November 24. The event has been named as Munsiyari mountain biking.

“We have developed a 3-km downhill trail from Danadhar to the Nanda Devi temple in Munsiyari for the event. It includes a 2-km uphill road along the Munsiyari market that will be used for another event called downhill trail by the Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB) team taking an altitude from 3,300 metre up to 2,100 metre,” said Michael Maria Joseph, organiser of the event.

Michael adds the event being organised to promote the motor bike trail park being developed in Munsiyari by the state government will help local village youths of Munsiyari to earn livelihood as it will attract tourists to this remote region of the Uttarakhand Himalayas.

“Besides national-level participants, we have trained 30 youths from local villages by providing them training on mountain biking. Seven of 30 youths have been allowed to take part in the state-level event being organised on November 24,” said Michael.
