MeT department predicts snowfall in upper regions of Uttarakhand

The prevalent dry weather in Uttarakhand is likely to end as the meteorological department in Dehradun has predicted rain or snow in the hilly districts of the state on Sunday.

According to meteorologists, light rain and snowfall might occur during next 24-hours starting from Saturday night at isolated places especially in higher reaches of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar districts of the state.

“High altitude places having height of 3500 metres and above in the mentioned hilly districts are likely receive rain/snow on Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures which are remaining normal to above normal are expected to drop due to change in weather,” said Bikram Singh, Director of meteorological centre.

Significantly, the expected change in weather is due to the passage of western disturbance and existing upper air cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and neighbourhood, which will influence the weather conditions in Uttarakhand.

Meanwhile, shallow foggy conditions especially during morning and night hours are likely to come back in the plains of Pauri, Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar and Nainital districts from Monday onwards.
