Banker’s Union hold protests at Ashley Hall against staff outsourcing

Bank employees held a protest against the Union Government here today. They have been opposing the outsourcing of employees to the banking sector.

The protesters, under the aegis of the United Forum of Bank Unions, gathered at PNB Ashley Hall and raised slogans against the government. They said a memorandum was submitted to the officials concerned, but to no avail.

Jagmohan Mehandiratta, convener of the United Forum of Bank Unions, said members were protesting against the outsourcing of employees to banking sector. He said the government should pay overtime to bank employees as they worked tirelessly till late night when demonetisation was imposed last year. “The Union government should immediately draft a proposal to impose five working days a week in the banking sector,” he said.

The protesters demanded increase in the gratuity limit for bank employees. They said the banking sector faced losses due to “wrong” policies.

The protesters have decided to participate in a nationwide strike scheduled for today February 28.
