‘Phillauri’ earned Rs 4.02 crores on day one

Phillauri, a romantic comedy film featuring Anushka Sharma, Diljit Dosanjh and Suraj Sharma, minted Rs 4.02 crore on its opening day.

Set in Phillaur, Punjab, the Anshai Lal directorial tells the story of Kanan (Suraj), who is persuaded by his friends and family to marry a tree to ward off the bad luck afflicting his love-life. To Kanan’s surprise, this awakens an ancient tree spirit Shashi, played by Anushka.

The initial trailer won praises from all corners and various members of the film industry applauded Anushka for producing yet another interesting film, after the dark and gritty ‘NH10’ in 2015.

The film also features ‘Life of Pi’ fame star Siraj Sharma, ‘Udta Punjab’ actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh and Mehreen Pirzada in prominent roles. In the film, Anushka plays a ghost named Shashi who ends up haunting Suraj’s character after he gets married to a tree.

The film, which released on Friday, has received a good response in North India, which has contributed 52 per cent of the total collections.’Phillauri’ is directed by debutant Anshai Lal and produced by Anushka’s banner Clean Slate Films and Fox Star Studios.
