Old notes worth over Rs 2 lakh found in field in Haldwani

Haldwani: Five months after old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes ceased to be legal tender, labourers involved in harvesting wheat crop at a field near Haldwani found a huge tranche of old Rs 1,000 notes that had been thrown away. The notes, which had been torn into pieces and are expected to be cumulatively worth over Rs 2 lakh, were stashed in polythene bags. Police officials have taken the notes in their custody and informed the income tax department.

Janmejay Khanduri, senior superintendent of police, said, “The notes had been cut into pieces, probably, with scissors. The amount found is estimated to be up to Rs 2.5 lakh. The investigation in the matter is on.”
