MeT Department issues advisory on more landslides on Chardham route

Two days after a massive landslide blocked the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway near Vishnuprayag, the Meteorological centre issued an advisory on Sunday which said that there was possibility of more landslides along the Char Dham yatra route in the next few days.

Landslides and road blockages could occur in vulnerable areas of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts due to continuous light to moderate rainfall activity during the past 10 days in these districts, said Bikram Singh, director of the Meteorological Centre.

“In view of the predicted rain activity, Met has also advised pilgrims and state government authorities to take precautionary measures so that everyone remains safe,” Singh said. According to data with state police, 6 lakh pilgrims have visited the four shrines since the yatra began in the last week of April.
