Government gives nod to ₹ 32000 crore budget; to be presented in Assembly on June 8

The Uttarakhand cabinet, under chairmanship of chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, on Thursday reportedly approved a budget of Rs 32,000 crore for rest of the financial year, which would be tabled in the House during the upcoming budget session starting from June 8, said government sources.

After coming to power, the BJP government had passed a vote-on-account for Rs 16, 048 crore on March 27 to meet the financial requirements of the state for four months.

The Cabinet also approved a draft for a start-up policy for Uttarakhand, that is also likely to be introduced during the Assembly session.

Further, the Cabinet has also approved a hike in the monthly pension for freedom fighters/ their dependants from Rs 11,000 to Rs 21,000. The government is likely to provide pension to those individuals who were jailed during the Emergency announced in 1975. First, an exercise will be started to look out for these individuals in Uttarakhand.

Approval has also been given for amalgamating the two government schemes, Nanda Devi and Gora Devi Dhan Yojana, being implemented for providing financial assistance to the girl child. The scheme would now be known as Nanda-Gora Devi Dhan Yojana.  In another decision, the Cabinet has also decided to end the entertainment tax levied on river rafting activities.
A sum of Rs 45 crore has also been approved for paying dues to sugarcane farmers.

Under the Gaura Devi Kanya Dhana Yojana, girl students get a benefit of Rs 50,000 if their family’s annual income is not more than Rs 15,956; while in the Nanda Devi Kanya Dhan Yojana, a girl child born on or after January 1, 2009 to BPL parents receives Rs 5,000 as fixed deposit on condition that the girl clears Class X.
