Incessant rains wreck havoc in Dehradun

Usually in Uttarakhand, the incidents of cloudburst occur in mountainous areas, but on Thursday, heavy downpour was witnessed in Dehradun. There was no loss of life or property reported in this, but the streets of the city were transformed into a pond. Due to heavy rains, the DM of Dehradun has announced holidays in all schools till 12th Friday. Meanwhile, Haridwar District Magistrate Deepak Rawat has ordered all school colleges and Anganwadi centers in the district to be closed on Friday.

Vikram Singh, director of the Dehradun Meteorological Center, said that between 3 pm and 4 pm, there was 91 mm rainfall in the city, whereas 100 mm of rain is said to be cloudy. He told that such a rain can be considered as a cloudburst.

Although he did not consider it surprising, he said that there is so much rain in Rajpur area of ​​Dehradun. According to the weather station director, there is possibility of heavy rains in the next 24 hours.

Two youths aboard a bike were killed when a boulder (huge stone) collapsed from the hill in Pithoragarh of Kumaon. In the last four days, seven people have lost their life due to landslides.

Apart from this, the debris is also hampering traffic on four Dham routes. 185 roads are closed in the state due to debris. Although plain areas have not faced the wrath of the weather gods and the water level of the rivers including the Ganges remain below the danger level mark. Border Roads Organization (BRO) jawans have made the closed highway smooth since Wednesday afternoon in Lambbad near Badrinath in Chamoli district.
