Part of Badrinath Highway washed away due to heavy rains
Incessant rains for the past 48 hours, the rain disrupted daily life in Garhwal. More than 100 connecting routes have been closed due to debris in rural areas, people are facing huge difficulties due to water logging in Dehradun and Haridwar. The rivers and streams are in full flow.
The water level of Tehri lake has reached 817 meters. The Ganga is near the warning line in Haridwar, the water level of Yamuna has also increased. In view of the circumstances, the administration has issued an alert for coastal areas. Given the weather patterns, the government has also instructed all the District Magistrates to be alert.
On the other hand, three meter highway has been washed away in Lambbad near Badrinath. The administration has stopped more than 250 pilgrims along with Govindghat and Pandukeshwar at various stops. Traffic over the Kedarnath highway was also blocked by landslides near Sonprayag. There are reports of snowfall on the high peaks of Pithoragarh in Kumaon.
Due to rains and landslides, there has been considerable loss in the rural areas of Dehradun. A house and four gaushalas were damaged due to hilly terrain in Purtad village in Jansar-Bawar, tribal area of the district. Terrified people spent the night awake by the villagers. SDM Chakrata Brajesh Kumar Tiwari has directed the revenue team to go on the spot.
Haridwar also saw the effect of the rain. The movement on the highway was interrupted, hours were in power in many places. Half a dozen peaks, including Panchachuli Rajarambha, Nandakot and Nandagunghat in Pithoragarh, received seasons first snowfall. Apart from this, there had been rain all day long in most areas of Nainital, Pithoragarh, Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts.
