Uttarakhand school teachers want ‘Transfer Act’ as Teachers’ Day gift

Even after 17 years of formation, the state of Uttarakhand is yet to have a transfer act for teachers who alleged that the current system has many loopholes in it.

Anil Rana, block chief of the organisation in Kalsi said, “It is imperative that such an act is introduced, as it will clearly specify the number of years a government teacher has to serve in hilly or inaccessible areas of the state and leave no chance for alleged wrong methods used by some to get transfers to better locations in the plains.”

Meanwhile, there are teachers posted in remote parts of the state for over 10-15 years and they wished that the act were introduced.

“When I joined, I had not expected to be posted for 26 years in the far-flung area of Kalsi. But there is no system to properly regulate transfers in Uttarakhand. I can only hope that a Transfer Act comes in before I retire,” said 53-year-old G C Uniyal.

Not just secondary school teachers, even those in primary schools are in favour of the demand. State general secretary of the Prathmik Shikshak Sangh, Digvijay Singh Chauhan said, “Government school teachers including those in secondary and primary schools have been invited for talks by the education department. Teachers have also been asked to provide suggestions to improve the Transfer Policy of 2013, at the meeting scheduled for September 13 and 14. However, we are not in favour of mere changes in the policy. We want a proper act for Uttarakhand, and will be placing that demand at the meeting.”
