Uttarakhand Transport Corporation set to hire 127 women conductors

For the first time in its 14-years of history, Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) is going to hire 127 women conductors for its fleet of over 1,150 buses.

As of now, women conductors have never been hired through direct recruitment by UTC since its formation in October 2003. According to UTC officials, only 42 women conductors have been appointed on compassionate grounds till date.
Deepak Jain, General Manager (GM) Operations, UTC, said, “For the first time, we have reserved 127 posts of conductors for women. They would be serving on buses plying on different routes within and outside the state.”

UTC had recently issued a notification for 424 conductor’s posts with 127, which is 30% of the total posts, reserved only for women. Of the total posts reserved for women, 80 are open for general category, 24 for scheduled caste, five for scheduled tribe and 18 for other backward class (OBC).

“Eligible candidates will have to apply online before September 12 and submit fees online by October 11. The written examination will take place on November 26,” Jain said.

At present, UTC has around 2,400 conductors with 1,000 on regular payroll and rest 1,400 on contractual basis. Similarly, the corporation has approximately 2,300 drivers with 900 on regular basis and about 1,400 through outside agencies.
