4th All India National Kayaking Championship Starts

Gopeshwar/Chamoli: The fourth edition of the All India National Kayaking Championship got underway from 31st December 2014. The event was inaugurated by Sanjay Kumar Khetwal- the District Magistrate of Chamoli.
20 kayakers practiced on Day 1
Kayakers representing Jammu and Kashmir, Laddakh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Himanchal Pradesh and ITBP took to the waters on day 1 of the event. The first day of the championship served as a warm up for the first leg of the free style (rodeo) round. All 20 kayakers showcased their skills and talents in the frigid waters of the Alaknanda River.
Besides free style round the event also has Slalom and Sprint rounds. In rodeo style of Kayaking, the Kayakers have to showcase their strength and might by taking the river head on. In the Slalom style event the kayakers have to successfully navigate through 10 gates some in the direction of the flow of the river while some against the flow.
The event is being organized by Uttaranchal Kayaking, Canoeing and Rafting Association and will conclude on Wednesday.
