India defeat Australia in Rajkot ODI to level series 1-1

In the second ODI match played in Rajkot, Team India defeated Australia by 36 runs. In this three-match ODI series, India have leveled the series 1-1. The last and decisive match of the series will be played on 19 January in Bengaluru. Team India came out to bat first after losing the toss, scored 340 runs losing 6 wickets in 50 overs and gave Australia a target of 341 runs to win. In response, Australia were all out for 304 runs in 49.1 overs.

This is Team India’s first win in three ODIs at this ground. Earlier in 2013, England and South Africa in 2015 had defeated the hosts. Mohammed Shami took 3 wickets for India while Navdeep Saini, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav got 2-2 wickets. Jasprit Bumrah took one wicket.

Former Australia captain Steve Smith scored the highest 98 runs for the team. He hit 9 fours and 1 six in his innings of 98 runs of 102 balls. Smith added 60 runs for the second wicket with captain Aaron Finch (33) while sharing a 96-run partnership for the third wicket with Marnus Labuschagne (46).

Team India, who came out to bat first, scored 340 runs losing 6 wickets in 50 overs and gave Australia a target of 341 runs to win. Shikhar Dhawan scored the highest 96 runs for the Indian team, while KL Rahul scored a belligerent 80 runs. Captain Virat Kohli scored 78 runs. Adam Zampa took 3 wickets for Australia while Kane Richardson got 2 wickets.
