Gaumukh Track opened for trekking

Uttarkashi: The Gangotri National park has opened the Gaumukh track for trekking. The hikers however will have to take a special permit from the Uttarakhand Government as the area has not yet been opened for the pilgrims due to heavy snowfall. A survey team of the park which was deployed at Bhojwasa has returned.

After analyzing the survey team’s data, the Gangotri National Park officials have decided to issue the permits only to professional and experienced hikers. The park has advised the hikers to bring with them enough supplies to last for the 18km trek. The permit will be issued by the officials at Kotbangla and Gangotri. Officials have also been deployed at Kanookh checkpost to keep a tab on the trespassers. Many glaciers have covered the 18km trekking track from Gangotri to Gaumukh as per the survey team’s report.
