14 dead as bus falls into gorge near Dhyari

Almora: 14 people are reported to be dead and 22 others injured as a bus belonging to Uttarakhand Roadways fell into a 200 meter deep gorge near Dhyari on the Dhyari-Pithoragarh highway. The bus was traveling to New Delhi from Pithoragarh. The accident happened at around 1:30 P.M on Saturday. The injured had been taken to near by hospital.

Kumaon DIG Pushkar Sailal said, “The bodies are still being extricated from the bus and rescue operations are on, causes of the accident are being probed.”

After hearing the news, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat announced compensation of Rs 1 lakh to family of those who were dead, Rs 50,000 to those who are seriously injured and Rs 20,000 for those who sustained minor injuries.
