5.6 magnitude tremor jolts Assam

A 5.6 magnitude earthquake hit Assam at 6:40 am on Sunday morning and the tremors were reportedly felt in Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan as well as eastern India.
The epicentre of the tremor was in Kokrajhar at a depth of 10 km on latitude 26.5 degree north and longitude 90.1 degree east, MET officials said.However,
no casualties or damage has been reported so far.

Guwahati had also felt strong tremors earlier in April this year, following the massive earthquake in Nepal. The northeast region of India falls under zone 5 and
is considered to be the world’s sixth most earthquake-prone belt.
