Former president APJ Abdul Kalam hospitalized after collapsing during a function in Shillong

Missile man of India on ventilator as his condition is said to be very critical

As per media reports, hugely popular former president APJ Abdul Kalam suddenly fell ill during a function at the Indian Institute of Management situated near the capital of Meghalaya.

Kalam (84) collapsed while he was delivering a lecture at Indian Institute of Management-Shillong at around 6.30 pm and immediately taken to Bethany Hospital, Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang said. Meghalaya Governor V Shanmughanathan and Chief Secretary PBO Warjri visited the hospital.

“He is in the Intensive Care Unit. We are examining him. We suspect that it could be cardiac arrest,” John Sailo Ryntathiang, director of Bethany Hospital, told reporters. “The former president was brought almost dead to our hospital. He is in a critical condition. We are trying to revive the patient” he added.
