Heavy rains cause floods in Ujjain

Ten people have died so far due to the heavy rainfall in western Madhya Pradesh. Over 6,000 people have been evacuated so far from areas affected by flash floods. Schools in Ujjain to remain closed.

Ujjain saw 310 mm of rain in a short span, leading to rise in the water level of Shipra and Gambhir rivers. Many temples on the banks of the Shipra were submerged in water up to the dome, said officials of the flood control department. A large number of families in Ujjain were evacuated and were now taking shelter in 10 relief camps set up in the district.
Kshipra river is flowing five feet above the danger mark at Badnagar bridge due to the surge in water. Several areas in western Madhya pradesh are facing flood like situation due to incessant rainfall in the region.
