Facebook rolls out “Donate Now” button option for non profit organizations

“Now, it’s easier than ever for nonprofits to connect with people who care about their causes and encourage them to contribute through the website of their choice,” said the company on its Facebook for Business page.

Users would now have the option of a ‘donate’ button on the pages of all non-profit organisations and linked advertisements on Facebook.

“Every day, people use Facebook to raise awareness and support for causes they care about and to motivate others to do the same. When you click the “Donate Now” button on an NGO’s page you are first alerted that the organisation is “Not endorsed by or affiliated with Facebook” and then redirected to the page’s external site where you can complete the donation.

To put that into perspective, no transaction or activity related to the donation essentially happens within the Facebook page itself. As clicking on the new ‘Donate Now’ button simply redirects you to a donation page of that particular NGO’s official site.

According to The Next Web, these buttons can now appear right on a Facebook Brand Page or directly within an ad on the site. Donations were done internally with credit card information.
