Himanchal state transport bus falls down a gorge near Chamba 8 passengers reported dead

Chamba: Eight people were killed and an equal number injured when a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus rolled down a gorge near Bairagarh in the remote Tissa sub division, 100 km from Chamba, on Thursday.

HRTC bus left from Chamba town for Killar on Thursday morning around 6 am and when it reached at Bairagarh after covering distance of around 150 km , it met with an accident.

Chamba, ASP, Kulwant Singh said that accident took place around 1 pm when the bus rolled 100 feet off the road. He said that eight people died on the spot while another died at Tissa Hospital. He said that initially seven injured were taken to Tissa Hospital but later doctors referred two of the injured to Zonal Hospital Chamba.

The accident spot, some 550 km from the state capital, is one of the remotest places in the state. Most of the dead and the injured were from Chamba district. Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh expressed grief over the incident.
