On Independence day eve CM Rawat launches public welfare schemes

Chief Minister Harish Rawat and his wife Renuka Rawat inaugurated the nutritional programme for children up to six years titled ‘Khilti Kaliya’ in Dehradun on Friday. The programme intends to involve people’s representative and citizens by making them active participants in the mission to curb malnutrition. “I exhort people to become active participants in the state government’s efforts to curb malnutrition,” said Rawat.

He said the government had launched a nutrition enhancing programme for expecting and lactating mothers by ensuring that soyabean, mandua and iodine salt were included in their meals. Chief Minister Harish Rawat today adopted two- year-old Sumarla, 11-month-old Aahil, Naman and Palak as part of the Khilti Kaliya programme launched to curb malnutrition among children.

CM Harish Rawat also launched a #CM4YOUTH campaign to connect with the youth of the state. The Chief Minister will interact with youths through regular visits to youth based cultural and sports events and initiatives, college and school visits for open houses and mentoring sessions. He also announced introduction of an official dedicated twitter handle #CM4YOUTH within a month.

Youth can directly share their problems and issues with the Chief Minister as well as innovative ideas and solutions to the issues faced by them and for the betterment of the state. Commenting on #CM4YOUTH, Rawat said: “The phrase ‘youth is our future’ is a highly used and abused phrase and often used to pay lip service to our biggest and fastest growing constituency. I, however, believe that the youth is our present and if we really want to bring about any credible change in our society we need to actively engage with the youth and co-opt them into our dreams and vision for a better and more equitable Uttarakhand.”

“Simultaneously, it is also critical that we cannot be dictatorial to them and lecture them on what they should eat, wear and do but engage with them in a manner and fashion that is acceptable to them – be one of them, be their respected friend. #CM4YOUTH is one such platform that I feel will get me into a position of being that respected friend to them and help me co-opt them into working towards my vision of a better Uttarakhand,” Rawat added
