Things get ugly at Doon Government Women’s Hospital as relatives of patients clash with hospital staff

Incident occurred on Monday evening

Dehradun: Daily mishaps and deaths occurring in the Government women’s hospital in Dehradun finally reached a tipping point when relatives of patients clashed with the hospital authorities.

Doon’s women hospital has recently been in the limelight for all the wrong reasons as cases of still births and negligence on the part of the hospital staff have come up. On Monday, when yet another still birth took place in the hospital, the patient’s relatives had a heated argument with the hospital staff, one thing led to another and soon it turned into a brawl. On Tuesday, the whole hospital staff boycotted work following last night’s incident, DG health had to intervene so that the staff could go back to work.

Irked by the negligence of the hospital staff, around seven families had left the hospital on Monday evening out of the fear of losing their children. “I can’t afford to murder my child when it is visible to me that the doctors here treat poor people as animals, forget giving special care to pregnant women. But the irony is that these same set of doctors at their personal clinics treat the pregnant women with utmost care,” said Jyoti Singh, a pregnant women from Singri, who left the hospital on Monday evening.

According to reports, 24 old Rakhi was expecting her delivery on Monday, but unfortunately her child was still born, this irked the family members and they started having a heated discussion with the officials. The matter hadn’t been resolved when another new born died soon after delivery. The arguments soon turned into abuses and soon a brawl took place in the hospital in which guards and nurses were also injured. Police have filed an FIR against the agitators and promised swift action. Meanwhile, the patients had to suffer on Tuesday morning due to boycott by the hospital staff.
