Uttarakhand develops its own disaster relief force

Dehradun: The state of Uttarakhand has now its very own state disaster relief force, which has been to tackle natural calamity like situations in Uttarakhand. The unit can prove to be a boon for the people of Uttarakhand who had to wait for relief forces from other states when the tragedy of 2013 occurred.

A total of 1250 personnel from 3 companies will constitute the state disaster relief force of Uttarakhand, and will be able to begin the relief work in any part of the state. The control rooms for the disaster unit have been constructed near Jollygrant airport. 57 acres of forest land and 5 acres of civial aviation land have been alloted to the SDRF for training and official use. In case of any emergency in the state, everything will be coordinated from the control rooms near Jollygrant airport. BSF commandos will provide backup to SDRF at the time of crisis. The SDRF team is equipped all the latest tools and technologies to be on the alert at all times.

The personnel’s have been trained to tackle emergencies like landslides, earthquakes, high altitude rescue missions, avalance etc.
