4.8 magnitude quake jolts Uttarakhand

Pithoragarh/Nainital: An earthquake measuring 4.8 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand on Tuesday. No loss of life or property has been reported so far.

The epicentre of the earthquake was near Haldwani in Nanital district of Uttarakhand. U S Geological Survey is expecting aftershocks post the earthquake. Although secondary shocks are less violent, there are high chances of the strong quakes than can damage weak structures.

The earthquake, which struck at around 2.57 PM, had a latitude of 29.7 degree north, a longitude of 80.3 degree east and a depth of 33 km, the MeT officals said.
