2nd death due to dengue in Uttarakhand

Dehradun: A nine year old girl lost her life while under going treatment for Dengue at a hospital in the state capital. Earlier, a 35 year old resident of Bageshwar too lost his life fighting the disease in Haldwani.

The threat of Dengue can be gauged from the fact that as of now 206 cases have been confirmed for dengue. The girl was reportedly being treated at a private nursing home in Chakrata (86 kms from Dehradun) since the last four days where she was not diagnosed correctly, said officials of Max hospital.

She was brought to the Dehradun private hospital on Sunday and given priority treatment. Doctors said three hours later, a Delhi-based lab informed them that the child was suffering from stage III dengue.

Doctors said when the girl was brought to the hospital on Sunday, her platelets were barely 20,000, and at the hospital, she was given additional 10,000 platelets. However, she could not survive as her internal organs gradually stopped functioning.
Dehradun CMO Dr S P Agarwal said, “We have directed Coronation, Jolly grant, Indresh, Max and several other government as well as private hospitals to make special arrangements for dengue patients and to ensure that they are given treatment on top priority. Also, all the 15 urban health centres in Dehradun, Mussoorie and Rishikesh have been directed to keep additional separate beds for dengue patients.”
