National games mascot and logo to be selected via online voting

The mascot and logo for the national games, which Uttarakhand is set to host in 2018, will be finalized via online voting- this will be a first of its kind. The state’s sports department will soon launch an online contest, the idea for which was suggested by the game’s consultants — Collage Group and Knight Frank — wherein people will be given five choices for the logo and two for the mascot.

Both the logo and mascot choices, emphasizing many features of Uttarakhand, have been designed by the consultants. The theme of the National Games would be ‘Play in Paradise’.

“We have shortlisted five logos and two mascots suggested by the consultants. The choices would be put for online voting, based on which the two would be finalized. This is the first time that online voting is being used for choosing mascot and logo of national games,” said Ajay Agarwal, deputy director, sports department.

The five shortlisted logos of the games show mountains, rivers and forests, which are integral to Uttarakhand, along with the picture of a sportsperson in action.

Agarwal added, “The shortlisted options of mascot and logo would be put up on the sports department website or national games website for voting. Once the online contest opens, voting would be allowed for one month.” The voting is likely to begin from November 1, sources said.

The sports department is hoping that maximum number of people participate in the contest. “Our plan is to advertise the online voting contest with pictures of shortlisted logos and mascots to create a buzz among the people,” said sports department official.
