6.2 magnitude tremor rocks Hindukush region

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 was recorded on Sunday near Chitral in northwest Pakistan, according to the United States Geological Survey. In India, the tremor was felt in parts of northwest India, including Jammu and Kashmir and the national capital.

The tremor was also felt in Pakistani cities of Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar, and in the Afghan capital Kabul, reports said.

The epicenter of the quake was in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. There were no immediate reports of casualties from the quake, which struck 83 km (50 miles) north-northwest of the city of Chitral. The quake was recorded at a depth of 100 km.
