Uttarakhand Roadways breaks 12 year old record

Uttarakhand Roadways cashes in on after Diwali rush, makes over a crore rupees in profit

Dehradun: This Diwali brought a record haul for the state owned Uttarakhand Roadways department who were able to collect an estimated 2 crore and 23 lakh rupees in the days following Diwali. After excluding fuel and other expenses, the department’s profit column read over a crore rupees.

This is the biggest haul by the Uttarakhand Roadways department since separating from the Uttar Pradesh Roadways over 12 years ago. This is great news for a department whose balance sheet was constantly in the red for 12 years even after making around 1.25 crore per day.

How the Uttarakhand Roadways department made the profit?

For years the employees of the department saw duty on Diwali as a spoilsport to their holidays, but this year the administrative heads were prompt in the planning and had announced several bonuses well ahead of Diwali. As a result the a large number of motivated employees turned up during the Diwali season. The ease of online booking coupled with long waiting lists in the railways also helped the cause for the Uttarakhand Roadways department. According to sources, the Dehradun-Delhi route was the most profitable route.
