2 dead, 20 injured in bus accident near Sitauli village

Dehradun: Two people died and 20 others were injured as a private bus fell into a 200 metre deep gorge near Setauli village on Nandprayag Ghat road on Tuesday morning at about 8 am. The condition of two injured is stated to be critical and they have been rushed to Srinagar for treatment. While the other 18 injured have been taken to hospitals at Gopeshwar and Karnprayag.

The bus, with 22 people on board, was going from Ghat to Gopeswhar. According to the eye witnesses, the bus driver in an effort to save a car coming from the opposite direction lost control and fell into the gorge.

The locals rushed to help the passengers and informed police about the accident. The police team with the help of locals started the rescue operation and were successful in bringing out 20 people alive from the gorge. However, two passengers had died on the spot.

The two deceased have been identified as Gambir Singh (56), a resident of Sirkar Ustauli village and Prem Singh (45), who is from Pudhkila ghat.
