17 soldiers martyred in Naxlite ambush in Sukma

In Sukma, Chhattisgarh, 17 soldiers were killed in an encounter on Saturday. The bodies of 14 missing soldiers were found on Sunday after 20 hours. The martyrdom of 3 soldiers was confirmed late in the night. Out of the soldiers who lost their lives, 12 jawans were of DRG and 5 of STF.

Police had received reports of large number of Naxalites in Kasalpad area. After this, 550 jawans of DRG, STF and Cobra were dispatched from Dornapal on Friday. It is being told that the jawans were trying to implicate the Naxalites in a surprise encounter, but the news has already reached the Naxalites. The Naxalites allowed the jawans to enter the jungles as part of the strategy.

Naxalites trap soldiers in an ambush

The soldiers went ahead of Kasalpad and when they did not see any Naxalite movement, they started returning. As soon as the security forces left Kasalpad, around 4 pm, the Naxalites trapped them in an ambush. The Maoists attacked the soldiers from the top of the mountain near Koraj Dongri, some distance from Kasalpad. Some soldiers were injured in the sudden firing. The soldiers did not get a chance to recover from this sudden attack.

Many Naxalites also reported to have been killed

Police officials say that several Naxalites have also been killed in this encounter. 14 injured jawans have been admitted to Raipur. The condition of two of these jawans is critical. It is being told that this is the first time that such a large number of DRG personnel have been targeted. The police’s DRG force consists of surrendered Naxalites and local youth. Because of this, they are aware of Bastar. They also know the local dialect. They are the leaders of other security forces.
