COP26: Nations agree to reduce global emissions to prevent global warming

About 200 countries have agreed to step together to save the planet at the United Nations Climate Conference, which lasted a day ahead of schedule in Glasgow. The COP-26 summit agreed on Saturday an agreement intended to achieve the goal of reducing emissions responsible for ‘global warming’. India has been successful in getting its proposal to reduce the use of fossil fuels like coal, petrol, diesel and natural gas in a phased manner instead of phasing out.

  • Instead of stopping the use of coal in COP-26, India put a seal on the proposal to reduce its usage
  • Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav said, after discussion, reshuffle in the policy of energy from coal in the new agreement
  • Some countries expressed displeasure over the change in the terminology of the proposal on the occasion of the Environment Conference
  • Talks will continue on carbon reduction

With this the Glasgow Climate Agreement has become the first UN climate agreement to plan to reduce the use of coal responsible for greenhouse gases with harmful climate effects. The countries involved in the agreement have also agreed to discuss carbon cuts next year to reach the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 °C.

Farewell with the campaign to save the earth

Announcing the agreement, COP-26 President Alok Sharma said, “Now we can leave this conference with an achievement for this earth and its people.”
