JNU Row: Lawyers protest at India gate

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday postponed the hearing for Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union President Kanhaiya Kumar’s bail application. Kumar’s lawyers on Friday moved the Delhi High Court after the Supreme Court refused to hear Kumar’s bail plea and said it was “not the appropriate forum”.

Lawyers began a protest from Patiala House Court to India Gate. A panel of Supreme Court lawyers on Thursday had submitted a report on the violence caused by lawyers outside Patiala House Court during Kanhaiya Kumar’s hearing on Wednesday.

The SC said it hearing the bail plea would set a wrong precedent, but asked the High Court to expeditiously look into it.
As the bail application was filed in the HC, a section of lawyers took out a march to India Gate, shouting slogans against JNU students.
Kanhaiya was booked for sedition after he was part of event at the JNU campus in memory of Parliament attacker Afzal Guru in which anti-India slogans were raised.
